Pre-Primary Program

Our skill-based kindergarten program is designed to sharpen their literacy, math, social and emotional skills in a fun- filled environment.

Literacy
Early reading begins with the skilled decoding of letters and sounds, allowing children to develop their awareness of the pronunciation of unfamiliar words. Blocks play is organized every week on a regular basis which involves group games and fun filled activities for improving their literacy skills. Students are taught the correct letter formations and are encouraged to write fluently and legibly.
Numeracy
Fundamental Math skills are built by making math more exciting for the kids. We follow an international math curriculum for kindergarten that includes professionally designed coloring, tracing, number counting, sequencing, sorting, simple addition, subtraction, graphing etc that feature more familiar images. Blocks play activities include concept-based play with blocks, beads, bamboo sticks, flash cards etc. This not only strengthens their motor skills but also improves their cognitive and thinking skills.
Art & Craft
Art and craft is an integral part of every thematic unit. This helps improve the gross and fine motor skills of the children. Their creativity and imagination is also developed.
Physical Education
Structured and unstructured play is vital for a child’s well-being, learning and growth. At Dr. Abdul Kalam School, we ensure importance is given to Physical education to keep the kids nimble and active. Some of the activities involve.

Music Assembly: This helps to energize kids and is a good start for the day. Children do basic aerobics with music.

Yoga: This helps the kids be more flexible and stress-free

Theme
Age-appropriate thematic units are selected and explored in multiple ways. Thematic content is integrated with different areas like rhyme, Art and Craft activity, Group games, sensory plays etc. We believe, this helps children make connections to transfer knowledge they learn and apply it in meaningful ways.
Rhymes, Music, Movement
As the saying goes – “Great Rhymers make great readers”!!

Rhymes are integrated with literacy, numeracy, or theme. More action oriented, fun filled rhymes are selected for Music and movement. This helps the kids to learn the skills in a fun-filled way
